Lagunitas Lucky 13 was originally released two years ago, in honor of Lagunitas’ 13th anniversary and I had a chance to try it originally with Mike. I was told not to age the beer, as it would lose its big hoppiness. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this has been re-released, despite being past their 13 anniversary. If Lagunitas makes a bad beer, I haven’t seen it or tried it. They are batting 1000 in my opinion.
Lagunitas Lucky 13 Mondo Large Red Ale. 22oz bottle 8.3% abv.

The clamor has been heard. The flagship craft brewery of the Mid-Atlantic, Dogfish Head Brewing, has begun shipping a handful of their brews to Southern California. Until recently, I would smuggle some goodies back to CA after visiting my friends and family, and share them with the gang here. While not every single DFH brew lit the world on fire out here, one common judgement was made, we love what they do. They make a unique beer that will leave a lasting impression. I found four packs of Palo Santo Marron four packs along side 90 Minute IPA and Midas Touch four packs at Whole Foods in Los Angeles.
Dogfish Head Brewing - Palo Santo Marron - 12oz bottle at 12% abv.
Appearance: Identical color to a glass of Dr. Pepper with no ice. Frothy head with carbonation rising to the top. Little light gets through.

Dogfish Head Black & Blue Ale
10% abv
Poured from a 750ml bottle into a chilled pint glass.
Appearance
Dark, cherry oak wood color with lots of tiny fruit sediment particles floating around. A fair amount of creamy, off-white head. Although this beer was somewhat transparent, it hardly let any light through the glass.

Possibly one of the best breweries in the world have a wonderful flagship line up of big, yet balanced brews released all year around. A few times a year, Alesmith releases wonders like Yulesmith, Decadence, and some brewery exclusive Barrel Aged beers.
Although they are hard to find outside of California, I have been seeing a larger presense of Alesmith’s champagne bottles of primo ale more and more. In 2007, Alesmith celebrated their anniversary with Alesmith Decadence 2007 Imperial Porter. While you may be scratching your head as to why a brew celebrating 2007 has just been released and reviewed, it is because they brew it in 2007, and let it age to drinkable perfection before offering it. It was worth the wait.

CBD Jon and I lined up for Lost Abbey Angel Share Release, and we brought our growlers to get the most bang for our buck for our 2 hour drive and overnight stay. I inquired ahead of time to see if they were filling this new Imperial Red, called Shark Attack. Sure enough, they were. I also got to trade in my clear glass growler for a dark brown one, at no extra charge. Got to chat with Sage, Beer Molly, and Tomme Arthur. All in all, a good day, which ended with my arms full of super scarce tasty beer.
