Whether it’s movie stars, TV stars, sports stars, people love larger than life, successful characters. This also holds true for the niche interest known as the craft beer industry. Even before the current craft beer industry boom, there has been a handful of personalities in the industry that have made quite a name for themselves by getting their name and brand out there. Fast forward to today, and you will find that many people who love craft beer also feel a connection with the rockstars that make the beer, and feel closer to the product when they they know who has made it. This brings us to our current poll question, WHO’S THE BIGGEST CRAFT BEER CELEBRITY?
We’ve listed over 20 well known industry names, we’d like you to choose the top personality on that list. If you have another person in mind, you can write that person in below in the comment section. Poll ends October 1st, 2014 at 5PM. Have fun with this.
[…] He also grew a substantial social media following under the nickname Toro Islander — a nod to his residency at Toronado and Pacific Islander roots — and has been featured in various articles and rankings, including earning the No. 1 spot for the biggest craft beer celebrity in a 2014 nationwide survey from The Full Pint. […]
Ed Roberts, Total Wine and More Beer Guru. Ed talks the talk and walks the walk if craft beer. Always in the field visiting new breweries, giving new craft brands a shot and supporting beer in general with this major retailer. Ed puts more craft beer in front of consumers than anyone I can think if nationally. He gets my vote.
In my opinion brewery personalities forced to take a “leave of absense” from their own company should be excluded from this list. How rmeverything while Greg was gone Stone produced some great beers which he would of be never approved of. Stone producing a great saison, hell has frozen over.
This is a celebrity pole, based on who is the biggest, not who you like or thinks deserves it. American adjunct beer drinkers our number craft folks and they ONLY know that guy from Sam Adams. Get over it. He advertises his face and name nation wide. Enjoy the misleading results of your “him-know” pole. I know this guy and I read that guys stuff. Good for you dingus.
Charles Finkle has been a tireless crusader in exposing America to classic beer styles for the past 40 years. From founding Merchant du Vin in the 70s- thereby resurrecting Sam Smiths, getting Trappist beer stateside, designing their beautiful labels, etc- to establishing the Pike Brewery in Seattle 25 years ago. Most people in the industry are aware that under Charles visionary leadership, the Pike has been the career launch pad for more talented brewmasters in the craft beer scene than any other establishment. I don’t understand how he didn’t make the list.
This must be a San Diego based website. Nobody knows who Nate Soroko or Don’t Drink Beer is… Not that I wouldn’t like them if I didn’t know but come on. Jim Koch is the only guy who is ACTUALLY on beer commercials. He’s the biggest celebrity. Not that his beer is any good but that wasn’t the question.
I think the title is misleading. It might be better to say “Who’s The Biggest Craft Brewery Celebrity?”. With the exception of Charlie, there are tons of missing ‘celebrities’.
Examples
1. Sean Paxton, Homebrechef
2. Zane Lamprey, Drinking Made Easy
3. Fred Eckhardt, Preeminent Beer Writer, former Marine, & namesake inspiration for Hair of the Dog Fred
4. Don’t Drink Beer
5. Dick Cantwell, co-founder & head brewer Elysian, author twice over (subjects = Barleywine and Starting a Brewery), *also esteemed ‘gourdfather’ of pumpkin beers
6. Todd & Jason Alsrom, Beeradvocate.com
7. Joe Tucker, Ratebeer.com
8. Wil Wheaton, child star of films Stand By Me, Toy Soliders, television “Star Trek: The Next Generation” & celebrity homebrewer
THERE’S A SUPER RARRRR NOMINEE THAT HAS BEEN CLEARLY OMITTED. PLEASE RECTIFY THIS SITUATION ASAP AND GET THE MADDOX OF BEER ON THE LIST. AND REMEMBER, DON’T DRINK BEER!
