San Diego Beer Week ’16 – Must Attend Events, Breweries & More!
San Diego Beer Week 2016 is right around the corner. I would like to share with you my list of things to do and breweries to see. Having traveled to San Diego for the purpose of drinking beer over the past 9 years, I am happy to report there are some new spots I’m looking forward to checking out in addition revisiting some tried and true favorite places and events.
The San Diego Beer Week Kickoff Guild Fest.- It would take you a few weeks if you wanted to visit the 100 plus breweries in all of San Diego county, if you considered travel, eating and sleeping into the equation. The Guild Fest brings some of the best beer San Diego has to offer in one setting, where you can try over 60 breweries and hundreds of different beers. It’s a plus that you will be sipping on the Broadway Pier in Downtown. Tickets are still available for the Saturday Session, but they won’t last long. CLICK HERE
Kern River Brewing Night at O’Briens Pub – O’Brien’s Pub is a must visit craft beer destination whether you are in town for Beer Week or not. It’s a cross between a dive and a pub, always has the best beer selection on tap and relaxed seating. On November 8th, O’Brien’s will be holding Kern River Brewing night, in which some of the most fantastic beers brewed 272 miles away in Kernville. MORE DETAILS
New Breweries I haven’t visited yet: In no particular order, here are some new breweries I haven’t visited that are on my list for San Diego Beer Week: Abnormal Beer Co., Bitter Brothers, Pure Project and ChuckAlek.
New Breweries I’ve visited and want to go back to: In no particular order: Bagby Beer Company, Thorn Street Brewery, Societe Brewing, North Park Brewing Co.
AleSmith Speedway Grand Prix – AleSmith Brewing makes the best coffee Imperial Stout in the world. During beer week, this fact is celebrated upon with The Speedway Grandprix, in which AleSmith brewers and staff members create over a dozen variations of Speedway Stout by adding fun flavors and ingredients. This event spans over 3 days, and is amazingly fun. Bring a friend and use Uber. From 11/9- 11/11. Get tickets and DETAILS HERE.
Great tasting rooms and beer bars to visit: Regardless of whether it’s beer week or not, these beer bars are a must visit. Please check their respective Facebook Pages and SDBW.org to see what special events are going on. Toronado San Diego, Tiger!Tiger!, Monkey Paw Brewpub, Rip Current North Park, Pizza Port Ocean Beach, Urge Gastropub and Bottle Craft in Little Italy.
The Battle of the Guilds on 11/11- Another treat for San Diego natives is The Battle of The Guilds. Brewers from Los Angeles and San Francisco flock to Toronado and put their best foot forward with their beers. The public gets to vote on which guild is the best. It’s a ton of fun, as there are many beers you wouldn’t otherwise be able to try. CLICK HERE FOR MORE DETAILS
