Terrapin Hop Harvest 2012 Coming October 6
Athens, GA – June 2012 Terrapin Beer Co. of Athens, GA, has announced the date for their third annual Hop Harvest Festival. The festival will take place on Saturday, October 6th, from 4:30 – 8:30 p.m. This year’s celebration of Everything Hoppy will be even hoppier than last year with 16 casks and the release of the 2012 So Fresh & So Green, Green, brewed with an as-yet-undisclosed hop variety!
So Fresh & So Green, Green: Terrapin’s fresh hop (or “wet -hop”) limited-release beer will be the star of the show. This very special beer is brewed with freshly-harvested hop cones flown overnight from the Yakima Valley in Washington – we brew the day after those cones are picked off the vine! Brian “Spike” Buckowski, co-founder & brewmaster at the brewery, has yet to reveal which variety of hop will be used to brew this Terrapin tradition. Watch for the “hop reveal” on the Terrapin Facebook page and Twitter feed.
Spike will also be busy working on 16 casks of ale, each dry-hopped with a different variety of hops to be served at the festival in two separate cask tents. These casks will offer people a fun and educational tasting opportunity in identifying the distinguishing characteristics of different hop varietals. These unique casks will be tapped throughout the evening of the event.
Other plans for the festivities include:
- Special guest speakers to educate us about the history and biology of these bittering beauties
- The harvesting of Terrapin’s own hop garden
- A wide selection of Terrapin’s hoppiest beers
- Unique Hop Harvest 2012 Glass
- Live Music
- Local food vendors
In response to the record attendance of recent Terrapin events, pre-sold glass vouchers will be available for the 2012 Hop Harvest Festival again this year. Glass vouchers (redeemable the day of the event) will be for sale at the brewery’s gift shop, located at 265 Newton Bridge Road, and online at www.terrapinbeer.com starting August 18th. A limited number of glasses will also be available the day of the event but folks are advised to purchase ahead as the event will likely sell out.
