Terrapin Beer Co. Hosts 4th Annual Hop Harvest Festival
(Athens, GA) – Terrapin Beer Co. will host their 4th Annual Hop Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 19 at the brewery in Athens coinciding with the release of So Fresh & So Green, Green. This year’s festival will benefit Dogwood Alliance.
This celebration of All Things Hoppy promises hop-heavy fun to attendees including infused beers, 8 hopped-up casks of Golden Ale highlighting the flavor and aroma characterisitics of specific hops, various local craft vendors both displaying and selling their wares–including Double Dutch Press, who will offer attendees the chance to create a commemorative silkscreened keepsake. Guests can also munch on food truck fare while listening to live music, and will get to witness the harvest of Terrapin’s own hop garden.
New this year will be a selection of short educational panels with hosts addressing topics like commercial vs. home brewing, the state of Southern forests and how Dogwood Alliance is making a difference, hop farming and processing, and more!
Though Hop Harvest grows a bit each year, the headlining act hasn’t changed since the first festival in 2010. The spotlight falls on fresh hop beer So Fresh & So Green, Green, an annual special release packaged in 22 oz. bottles. The brew is made with a single hop variety in its fresh, or “wet”, form–straight off the vine. Hops are harvested and immediately flown overnight to the brewery in Athens; brewing of So Fresh & So Green, Green begins within 36 hours of the hops’ harvest out in the Pacific Northwest. The brewery changes the hop variety each year, though the 2013 hop has yet to be officially announced.
Glasses for the 2013 Hop Harvest Festival will be sold for $20 with $5 from each glass sale being donated to Dogwood Alliance. Pre-sale glass vouchers will be available both in the brewery gift shop and online, and will go on sale Tuesday, September 3.
