Monk’s Kettle to Host Moonlight Brewery Beer Dinner
The Monk’s Kettle to Host Moonlight Brewing’s First Beer-Pairing Dinner
On Wed September 2, 2009, the Monk’s Kettle will offer a five-course dinner, designed to complement the innovative beers of Moonlight Brewing Company. Founder/Brewer/One-Man-Show Brian Hunt will discuss the beers as they are being poured with each course.
San Francisco, CA – The Monk’s Kettle is proud to have the honors of hosting Moonlight Brewing’s Brian Hunt for his first beer-pairing dinner on Wednesday, September 2, 2009. As a result of high demand for seats, the event was sold out before it was publicly announced. To complement the flavor profiles of the first six beers, Executive Chef Kevin Kroger has created a menu of an amuse bouche and five courses, which include Cedar Plank Salmon and grilled Venison Strip Loin. The seventh beer offered will be the debut of Artemis, an ale brewed with Mugwort and wild Bergamot. Moonlight’s Founder and Head Brewer Brian Hunt will speak about each beer as they are being served; the Monk’s Kettle?s manager/bartender Sayre Piotrkowski will to discuss the Monk’s Kettle’s process of creating the courses to highlight the beers.
The Monk’s Kettle hosts a beer-pairing dinner every month (usually the first Wednesday of the month, schedule permitting). These dinners, usually five courses, are designed to highlight the offerings of a brewery or beer region. Past dinners have included San Diego’s Stone Brewing Co., Colorado’s Oskar Blues, and a New Year’s celebration with Belgium’s Malheur (Brouwerij Landtsheer). The calendar is filled through next summer, with future events planned with Belgium’s Brasserie d’Achouffe, Portland, Maine’s Allagash, and the world-class craft beer importers, the Shelton Brothers.
Moonlight Brewing Company, founded in 1992 by Brian Hunt, is located in the Santa Rosa area. This is essentially a one-man operation, producing some of the Bay Area’s best and most innovative beers, reaching a sort of cult status in the beer world. Brian has been experimenting the last couple of years with no-hop beers, using herbs and other ingredients to flavor his beer. He is also currently working on a line of sour beers (modeled after the beers of Belgium’s Flanders region) which will be released when they have matured, in a few years.
