Portsmouth Brewery – Learn About Science with Steve Parkes
(Portsmouth, NH) – Join us for a special beery edition of the Portsmouth Science Café, tomorrow, May 15, 2013. In celebration of American Craft Beer Week, we’re very pleased to welcome Steve Parkes, Owner and Lead Instructor of the American Brewers Guild and its brewery, Drop In Brewing Company in Middlebury, VT. to the LaPanza Lounge to lead a discussion about the science of brewing.
Steve’s resumé makes him uniquely qualified for this event. A graduate of the prestigious International Centre of Brewing and Distilling at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland, not only has Steve operated successful breweries on both sides of the Atlantic, but he’s also been teaching professional training for craft brewers since 1997 through the Guild. If that wasn’t enough, Steve won 2009’s Russel Scherer Award for Innovation in Craft Brewing, one of the highest honors in the industry.
This will be the first Science Café focusing on a topic outside of climate change, so we’re expecting a bit of a different crowd to fill the LaPanza Lounge. We’ll open the doors at 5pm, so you can have a bite and a pint before Steve begins at 6pm. This is one of our many American Craft Beer Week events; you can find our full schedule here on our blog.
The Portsmouth Science Café provides a unique chance for members of the public to learn about and discuss issues in contemporary science from scientists in the relaxed atmosphere of a pub. The Science Café is free and open to all.
Portsmouth’s Community Radio, WSCA 106.1 FM, records each event for replay on The Environmental Show, Tuesdays 9-10 a.m. The Warmer Water, Riskier Coasts discussion will be broadcast May 21, 2013. The Science of Beer will be broadcast May 28, 2013. Podcasts are archived on the web at http://nhepscor.org/sciencecafe
We’ll see you at the pub!
