Pike Brewing – Old Bawdy Vertical Tasting
This Sunday at the Pike Brewing Pub we will be pouring:
1994 – 1996 – 1997 – 2006 – 2007 – 2008
Alumni Pike Brewer, Fal Allen, now brewing in Singapore, will be on hand to taste the evolved fruits of his labors and to discuss Old Bawdy along with Pike Head Brewer, Drew Cluley.
Fal was responsible for the 1994, 1996 and 1997 vintages, and Drew, the 2006, 2007 and 2008 vintages. Below are a few of Fals thoughts about his experience in brewing our first Old Bawdy.
“Whenever we developed a new beer at Pike Place, the entire staff (all of whom were home brewers) would sit around and discuss what we thought the beer should be like. If we had differing opinions, as we often did, we would set a general recipe and then each of us would go home and brew the beer with a slight variation to the recipe. Then, after the beers were finished, we would meet again to taste each brewer’s beer and discuss. We would then choose the preferred final recipe.” “Many of the people working at Pike during those years went on to develop beers at other breweries, so Old Bawdy beers from those years represent the brewing tastes and skills of many brewers familiar to the Seattle brewing scene: Dick Cantwell (The Elysian), Kevin Forhan (The Ram), Bill Jenkins (The Big Time), Janelle Pritchard (Snoqualmie Falls), Skip Madsen (Water Street Brewing), as well as other brewers who have moved out of the area. These beers are a unique chance to taste collaborations that may never happen again. “
