Oskar Blues Burning Can Festival to feature 60+ Craft Breweries
Lyons, CO – Oskar Blues BURNING CAN Fest returns to celebrate CANned craft beers in the brewery’s original hometown of Lyons on May 30. More than 60 craft breweries will be serving up everything that craft beer-in-a-CAN offers: fresh, easily portable, and earth-friendly. The all-day festival also includes the Lyons Outdoor Games, The Beer Relay, and live tunes. New Orleans-based soul & blues act, The Revivalists, will continue the party with a free concert after the beer tasting to celebrate Oskar Blues’ recent launch in the band’s home state of Louisiana.
Live music is free and starts at 5 p.m. with local faves The Big Thompson Flood, followed by raucous Americana group Interstate Stash Express. Then The Revivalists take the stage at 8 p.m.
Oskar Blues Crowler will provide breweries that don’t CAN, but still want to pour at the Festival, a chance to fill CROWLERS with their own beers. A Crowler™ (CAN + growler) is a 32-ounce CAN filled with fresh craft beer from the source. It’s one of the newest innovations coming from Oskar Blues Brewery and development partner Ball Corporation–pioneers of the American craft beer in-a-CAN movement.
The beer fest part of Burning Can will take place from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. General admission tickets are $45 and include unlimited four-ounce samples, free entry into the Lyons Outdoor Games, and The Revivalists concert. VIP tickets are $60 and include a souvenir drinking glass, entry to the beer fest at 3 p.m. and a VIP badge.

Lyons Outdoor Games features participant and spectator sport competitions including The Beer Relay. Designed by Adventure Fit to blend craft beer culture with the adventurous outdoor lifestyle, The Beer Relay debuts at Bohn Park on May 30 and at Oskar Blues’ REEB Ranch near Brevard, North Carolina, on July 18. Teams of two or more will run a 5K trail course, relay-style, running one or more laps per person. Runners who drink a 12-ounce Oskar Blues beer before their lap earn a two-minute deduction from the lap time. The team that completes the most laps in six hours wins. In between laps, runners can watch other sport events, take a quick bike ride, or just relax. Prizes will go to top teams in multiple categories. Registration is now open at www.thebeerrelay.com. There also will be activities for families, including a kids and family climbing wall, a kayak pool and more.
Those who’d rather spectate than participate can watch world-class athletes competing in both open and professional competitions. The day’s line-up includes BMX/Dirt Jump competitions, the class IV+ Adam Barron Memorial Creek Race, the Freestyle Kayaking Competition and Slalom Kayak Competition, Open Cornhole Tournament and slackline demos with Slackline Industries.
What would a CANNED beer festival at an outdoor-sports celebration be without RECYCLING? Burning Can raises money for CAN’d Aid Foundation, the non-profit side of Oskar Blues Brewery dedicated to giving back and making a difference. As part of CAN’d Aid’s “Crush It Crusade”, a national recycling initiative, cans collected throughout the day from the 50+ craft breweries will be used to create an 11-foot tall “Burning CAN Man.” This up-cycled art piece conceived by Amanda Wilshire of AWD Art Works, in partnership with the “Crush It Crusade”, will give Burning CAN revelers a chance to crush, recycle and help build the man. Look for CAN’d Aid’s eye-catching recycling stations, granted to the Town of Lyons last summer, throughout Bohn Park, as places to corral all waste, recycling and compost.
Camping will available on Saturday night in Bohn Park. Camping spaces are currently being sold through the Lyons Outdoor Games website. Discounted lodging options are also available through the Best Western Plus in Longmont for Saturday night. The Oskar Blues trolley will be shuttling Burning CAN-goers from the Best Western Plus to Bohn Park and back starting at 2 p.m.

Stay tuned for Burning Can North Carolina on July 18 and 19 at Oskar Blues REEB Ranch in Brevard, NC.
About Oskar Blues Brewery
Founded as a funky little brewpub by Dale Katechis in 1997, Oskar Blues Brewery launched the craft beer-in-a-can apocalypse in 2002, using a tabletop machine that sealed one can at a time. In 2008, the makers of the top-selling pale ale in ColoRADo, Dale’s Pale Ale, added a brewery in Longmont, ColoRADo. The brewery has since experienced explosive growth-from packaging 59,000 barrels of beer in 2011 to 149,000 barrels in 2014. In December 2012, Oskar Blues opened the doors to an expansion brewery in Brevard, North Carolina. Oskar Blues has continued craft can innovation by releasing OLD CHUB NITRO as the first American NITRO craft beer-in-a-can and introducing the CROWLER as a canned off-premise growler alternative. The innovative, original canned craft brewery now distributes trail-blazing craft brews to 42 U.S. states, Washington, D.C., as well as parts of Canada, Sweden, and the U.K.
