Deschutes Brewery Greater Los Angeles “Base Camp” April 12-16
Deschutes Brewery descends on Los Angeles for its Base Camp Week of specialty beer tastings, beer and food pairings and, of course, appearances by Woody, our giant beer barrel on wheels.
Deschutes brewers will be on hand to provide some in-the-trenches insight into our courageously crafted brews.
Woody Appearances – Come see our giant traveling beer barrel, Woody, the good-times-on-wheels mobile bar. He will be rolling his way all around the Los Angeles area during base camp week, complete with multiple delicious Deschutes Brewery beers, a stereo, and a disco ball. He is a natural gathering spot at any event for all thirsty individuals (and any misplaced members of your party).
Where: All over the greater Los Angeles area! See event schedule below.
Beer Tasting with a Brewer (Verdugo Bar) – Kick off the week right by visiting with Deschutes Brewery’s giant barrel, Woody, and sampling some heavenly brews from his 16-taps – right in front of your favorite spot for booze, beer and beats in Glassell Park. Not only will we be pouring the favorites from the Oregon-based craft brewery, but the never released Black Butte XXIII and the once-a-decade-ale Jubel 2010 will also be ready to assault your palate with its complexity. Veronica Vega, Deschutes only female brewer, will be hanging out with us for the evening to give some insight into the creation of the brewery’s award-winning beers.
Where: Verdugo Bar, 3408 Verdugo Road, Los Angeles – When: Tuesday, April 12, 6-10pm
Five-Course Paired Dinner (Rustic Canyon) – Known for seasonal food that comes from farmers and ranchers that practice sustainable agriculture, Rustic Canyon Winebar and Seasonal Kitchen has worked with Deschutes Brewery to create a one-of-a-kind evening. A private five-course dinner, each artfully paired with a Deschutes Brewery hand-crafted ale, is nigh on close to perfection. A brewer will be in attendance to help explain how the beer was created and while the chef will demonstrate how that beer complements each specialty dish.
Where: Rustic Canyon Winebar and Seasonal Kitchen, 1119 Wilshire Blvd, Santa Monica – Price: $75 – When: Wednesday, April 13, 5-9pm
Specialty Beer Tasting (Surly Goat) – Not only will the giant Deschutes Brewery barrel on wheels, Woody, be here, but you should be too! We’ll be pouring the Lost Barrels of Mirror Mirror (yes, they were really lost and rediscovered in the brewery’s warehouse) and Jubel 2010, which is only released once every 10 years.
Where: Surly Goat, 7929 Santa Monica, West Hollywood – When: Wednesday, April 13, 6-8 pm
Craft Beer and Whiskey Wednesday! (Seven Grand Whiskey) – Take Deschutes Brewery’s damn tasty beers and hook them up with the 300+ premium whiskeys, rare ryes and small batch bourbons on hand at Seven Grand and you have a night to remember (or not!). This is a very rare chance to experience a vertical tasting of the brewery’s Imperial Stout – The Abyss – with vintages from ’07, ’08 and ’09. A Deschutes Brewery brewer will be on hand to discuss the creation of the Oregon-based brewery’s craft beers. Pair your beverages with some hand-rolled cigars rolled on-site by Leon Cigars.
Where: Seven Grand Whiskey Bar, 515 W 7th St, 2nd Fl, Los Angeles – When: Thursday, April 14, 12-3pm
Food and Beer Pairing Luncheon (Hot’s Kitchen) – Most will agree that nothing goes together like tacos and beer. That’s why Hot’s Kitchen – with its “surfer meets sophisticate” menu of more than 50 kinds of tacos – is the perfect place to create some lunchtime fun with Deschutes Brewery’s craft beer. Not only will Woody, Deschutes’ giant traveling beer barrel be in attendance, but a brewer from the Oregon-based brewery will be enjoying some tacos and answering questions about the beers.
Where: Hot’s Kitchen, 844 Hermosa Ave. Hermosa Beach – When: Thursday, April 14, 4pm – close
Deschutes Night! (Congregation Ale House) – Oregon’s Deschutes Brewery is taking over the tap handles for an evening full of damn tasty beers. We’ll be pouring the ever-popular Black Butte Porter and Mirror Pond Pale Ale, along with some other favorites such as Inversion IPA, Red Chair Northwest Pale Ale, Hop Henge Experimental IPA and Nitro-Obsidian Stout. In addition, we’ll be cracking open bottles of The Abyss ‘08, an Imperial Stout finely aged for your drinking pleasure.
Where: Congregation Ale House, 201 E. Broadway, Long Beach – When: Thursday, April 14, 6-8pm
In-Store Tasting (Hi-Time Wine Cellars) – Here’s your chance to discover your favorite Deschutes Brewery beer, and maybe even take some home to further your exploration. We’ll be pouring several of the beers that are for sale in the store, plus a special pouring of The Abyss ‘07 – a rare find of a vintage that’s becoming more rare as the years go by!
Where: Hi-Time Wine Cellars, 250 Ogle St, Costa Mesa – When: Friday, April 15, 5pm – close
Specialty Beer and Food Pairing (Side Door) – Side Door executive chef Ryan O’Melvany’s creative menu that includes a wide variety of dishes that are perfect to pair with Deschutes Brewery beers. Deschutes’ giant traveling beer barrel will be parked outside, keeping it festive with his tunes and general overall good looks.
