Bristol Brewing – A Big Week For Beer Geeks
Once upon a time, January and February were slow months at Bristol Brewing Company. No longer. We are literally* bursting at the seams to bring you awesomeness and great beer. Behold:
Colorado Springs, CO – This week tickets go on sale for the Eighth Annual Firkin Rendezvous on February 18th. A “firkin” is a cask equal to 9.75 imperial gallons (or half a kilderkin or one sixth of a hogshead). “Cask conditioning” of ales is a traditional British style of brewing that originated centuries ago when publicans lived above their pubs and made a life’s work out of tending their beers. Cask ales were fermented, dry-hopped, conditioned and served in a single cask, a firkin being the most commonly used size. (Brewers love them because the small size offers a chance to experiment and show off. You’ll love them because you dig experimental, show-off-y ales.) A “Firkin Rendezvous” is a cozy cask ale festival benefitting the Colorado Brewers Guild, held in our very own brewhouse and featuring 25 of Colorado’s best microbreweries (places like Ska, Oskar Blues, Avery and Lefthand).
New this year we have a special VIP session beginning an hour before the general public is admitted. You’ll have first crack at all the beers, plenty of elbow room, and a chance to talk one on one with your favorite brewers. VIP tickets are $50, General Admission is $35. Space is extremely limited and we will sell out by early February, so don’t delay. Come in to Bristol or call The Bristol Beerocrat at 719-633-2555 x11 to get your tickets starting tomorrow. Admission includes a souvenir tasting glass, complimentary eats, and all the beer sampling you can responsibly manage.
In the meantime, this Thursday, January 12th at 5:00 pm we’ll release our English Old Ale, a huge and hearty winter warmer that has been bottle conditioning since August 2011. This very traditional ale is medium-bodied and singularly malty, supplying sweet caramel undertones and age-related character at every turn.
Then on Friday the 13th Black Fox will release Somnombulance, a Belgian brown ale brewed with coffee beans, vanilla beans and Ghirardelli caramel. Yum!
Plus, we’ll be showing all seven of the remaining games, so why not make plans to watch the playoffs with us. Bring a pot of chili or something if you want. We’ll plug it in for you and even supply the forks and napkins. Go Broncos!
Cheers,
Laura
