The State of The Pint – March 2012
We wanted to drop you guys a line to keep you informed with what’s going on here at The Full Pint. We are on our 5th year of operation, and we are experiencing some obvious growing pains.
To take a step back, you should know that this entire site/project has never been really funded, and has been the result of lots of “winging it.” Jonny Fullpint and I do our best work on a whim, well most of the time anyway. While winging it and doing things on a whim has gotten us this far, we are quickly realizing that the next level for us will require a little more attention and care.
About 4 months ago, we began noticing the site crashing, and disconnecting our database too often to not address. After spending time with our then host, Host Gator to resolve this problem, they told us we require more computing resources than our current contract allowed. So we decided to shop around and see what else was out there. So we did, we found a new host called Web Hosting Hub. I explained to them the issues that we were currently having, and if they could meet our needs. Like any good sales person, they greeted us with open arms, assuring us we were well within their limit of computing resources to host the world famous The Full Pint.com.
And then a week after we jumped in bed with Web Hosting Hub, our account was suspended. And then three days after that, we were suspended again. Why? Because this site uses more resources than the current contract allowed. Aggravating , I know, but eye opening as well. It is now crystal clear that The Full Pint needs a heavy duty webhost to handle the amount of content we’ve accumulated over the past five years, as well as the traffic from our thousands of readers daily.
So there is a decent chance we go dark before we get to our new host, we would like to thank you for your patience and understanding while we find the right sized home for the latest in craft beer news, reviews and event information. Thanks for all of your support.
PS — If you are a Sys Admin or in the know about a good, inexpensive, reliable VPS hosting solution, please drop us a line via the contact button up top, or on Facebook/Twitter. There may be some free beer in it for you.
Cheers,
Dan and The Full Pint Team
