Boston’s Harpoon Brewery & St. Louis’ Schlafly Beer Wager On Red Sox vs Cardinals World Series

Boston, MA – The World Series starts at Fenway Park in Boston tonight and many questions abound.  Will the Sox bullpen continue their hot streak?  Will the Cards come back thirsty for revenge after the 2004 Sox Series sweep?  Will Harpoon Brewery’s tasting room have a keg of Schlafly Beer on tap, or will The Saint Louis Brewery be pouring Harpoon IPA in the end?

When it was determined that the Boston Red Sox would be playing the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series, Harpoon president Dan Kenary dialed up his friend Dan Kopman, co-founder of the The Saint Louis Brewery, makers of Schlafly Beer, and arranged a wager.   The wager: if the Red Sox win the World Series, Schlafly will pour a keg of Harpoon IPA in their tap room and if the Cardinals win, a keg of Schlafly will be tapped in Harpoon’s Boston tasting room.

Once the Series victors have been crowned, the brewery that has won the wager will ship a tap handle and a keg of their flagship beer to the losing brewery for tapping on their draft system.  The beer will remain on tap until the keg is empty.

The Harpoon Brewery was founded by beers lovers, Rich Doyle and Dan Kenary.  In 1986 Harpoon was issued Brewing Permit #001 by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, since it was the first brewery to brew commercially in Boston after a dormant period of about 25 years.  Harpoon’s line of craft beer features its award winning IPA and UFO Hefeweizen beers, along with four special seasonal selections.
