Three Floyds Cognac Barrel Aged Dark Lord de Muerte
From Three Floyds – Dark Lord aged in Cognac barrels with ancho and guajillo chili peppers. First available at Dark Lord Day 2012
Three Floyds Brewing – Three Floyds Cognac Barrel Aged Dark Lord de Muerte – 22 oz. bottle poured into a taster glass. Generously poured at Rate Beer Summer Gathering 2012 15% abv.
Appearance: Pours near black. No head, but some faint tan edges when you move the beer around.
Aroma: Smokey chilli, dark chocolate, columbian coffee, alcohol.
Taste: Spicy chili, brownies, cognac, chocolate. Finishes with lingering spice.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied. Hot and very thick.
Overall: A treat to try, lots of big bold flavors, nothing is more over powering than the other, the heat was manageable. The barrel and pepper treatment complimented virgin Dark Lord’s sweet coffee profile, which in my opinion was a win.
