Sierra Nevada Ovila Quad
From Sierra Nevada – A collaboration between Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. and the monks at the Abbey of New Clairvaux, Ovila Abbey Quad brings the centuries-old monastery brewing tradition to America. Ovila Abbey Quad is rich and complex with layers of flavor including notes of intense dark fruits, and caramel-like maltiness.
Sierra Nevada Brewing – Sierra Nevada Ovila Quad – 750 ml. bottle poured into a goblet. 10.4% abv.
Appearance: Pours a midnight amber with a lasting active 1/4 inch layer of light tan foam.
Aroma: Potpourri and bubble gum. Dark dried fruit.
Taste: Spicy yeast. Burnt sugar , toast, spicy hops. A little bubble gum in the background, but by no means a bubble gum bomb.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied. Moderate carbonation.
Overall: This was rather conservative for a beer aiming to be a traditional trappist style beer. Not bad, but didn’t knock my socks off.
