Avery Brewing The Real Peel IPA
Product description: Inspired by a summer’s day and crafted to crush year-round, our IPA twists real tangerine peel and citrusy hops into this juicy experience. It’s the real deal!
Avery Brewing – Avery The Real Peel IPA – 12 oz. can poured into a tulip – 6.3% abv.
From a 12oz can, Real Peel is bright gold in color with slight chill haze. An impressive, yellowish beige head towers to the top of my hybrid tulip glass. There is good retention and beautiful lacing left on the edges of the glass as it settles in. Diving in, fresh tangerine explodes right out of the glass with some orange Fanta soda and orange Tang powder in there as well. It’s assertive for sure. Flavor-wise, Real Peel hits you immediately with that trifecta of tangerine juice, Fanta, and Tang. But it settles in quickly to your basic, citrus hop-forward IPA base beer.
Some grittiness and chalkiness mid-palate segue into a lengthy, dry finish with tangerine peel piling on. The tangerine adjunct straddles the line between too forced/artificial and expressive/highly-integrated. But the more I drink this one, the more I like it. And with its restrained 6.5% ABV, it slots nicely into the summer quenching beer category. Well done!
