3 Fonteinen Oude Kriek
From 3 Fonteinen – Oude Kriek 3 Fonteinen is produced by ripening of cherries (both the flesh and the seeds) in young Lambic. This process takes between 6 to 8 months. After bottling the beer matures for at least 4 months in a warm room where the spontaneous fermentation in the bottle is done.
3 Fonteinen – 3 Fonteinen Oude Kriek – 750 ml. bottle poured into a goblet. 5% abv.
Appearance: Pours a dark pink with nothing more than some faint white swirls atop.
Aroma: Cherry, funk and chlorinated swimming pool. Every single Kriek I swear. I love it, and swimming pool is what the phenols remind me of.
Taste: Tart, bitter fruit pit, tart cherry pie filling.
Mouthfeel: Slightly astringent, full bodied.
Overall: Not too bad. I didn’t pick up any wood notes. I’m happy it wasn’t overly sweet, but it didn’t knock my socks off as much as Lou Pepe does. Definitely want to try various vintages of this.
