Saint Arnold Returns from GABF with Gold
Saint Arnold Brewing Co. Returns from Great American Beer Festival with Gold
Busy month ahead as brewery transitions to larger location on the edge of downtown Houston.
HOUSTON, September 29, 2009 – The crew from Saint Arnold Brewing Company (www.saintarnold.com), the oldest craft brewery in Texas, is returning from the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) with gold.
They won’t bother finding a spot to hang the medal, though, because their offices and brewing operations will soon be moving to their new brewery in a historic building on the north side of downtown Houston.
Judges in the Munich Style Helles category awarded the gold medal to Saint Arnold Summer Pils, the brewery’s summer seasonal. This is the fourth time Saint Arnold Summer Pils has earned a medal at the GABF in this category. It previously won silver in 2008, 2005 and 2003. The brewery has now won a total of 13 medals at the GABF over the past 11 years.
Saint Arnold Summer Pils is brewed every spring and available during the summer months throughout Texas. It is a crisp, delicately flavored Bohemian-style pilsner that features fine German pils malt and two central European noble hop varieties: Czech Saaz and Tettnanger.
“Our original brewery has served us well and has turned out some quality beer that makes us proud, and hopefully, the rest of Texas can be proud of it,” said Brock Wagner, founder of Saint Arnold Brewing Company. “We expect to continue that tradition for decades to come at our new brewery.”
This weekend, Saint Arnold expects hundreds to join in a celebration its original brewery at their annual Oktoberfest celebration featuring musical guest Sideshow Tramps. The event on October 3rd will be the last big party there after 15 years of operations. Admission is $42 per person and includes German dinner and a special mug. For reservations, contact Ann at 713-686-9494 or [email protected].
Construction crews are in the final stretch of a year-long renovation of a historic building at the edge of Houston’s central business district. Saint Arnold’s offices are expected to move in early October and brewing operations are expected to transition to the new location in November. The new brewhouse, imported from a defunct brewery in a Bavarian monastery, will immediately increase Saint Arnold’s brewing capacity by 60 percent to 40,000 barrels per year. The facility offers the ability to grow production to 100,000 barrels per year.
