Atwater Brewery Plans to Launch Line of Distilled Spirits
(Detroit, MI) — One of Michigan’s largest and fastest growing craft breweries, Detroit based-Atwater Brewery, is getting into the spirit of craft spirits. Now in possession of a distilled spirits permit, Atwater plans to launch a line of spirits that will be available at their Biergarten and Tap House, Atwater in the Park, and eventually at their tap room in Detroit. Atwater has purchased a 250L Reflux Distilling System to produce the spirits.
The Park will roll out the new line of spirits Thursday, June 18th at its one year anniversary celebration. The new spirits will be accompanied by live music, a 1936 limited beer release, and all of the other Atwater favorites. Whiskey, rum, vodka, and gin will be the first spirits to hit the bar next week.
“We are very excited to introduce a whiskey as the first in our line of handcrafted spirits,” says Atwater Brewing President, Mark Rieth. “For us, it has always been about making fantastic high quality liquids, this keeps things fresh for us and has everyone excited.”
Atwater Brewery is the biggest brewery in Detroit and the third largest in Michigan. It opened its doors in 1997 as one of Michigan’s early craft breweries. Rieth took reign of the operations in 2005 and since has been responsible for tremendous growth and gaining a national following for its beer.
“There’s a cool cavalier attitude in craft distilling now, not unlike it was years ago when we got into the craft beer category,” he says. “It’s a bold new world out there in spirits, and we’re excited to extend our passion for quality craft beverages to the public in a new way.” He says the entire Atwater team is excited about putting the 250 L reflux distilling system to use with the preliminary phases of production.
“We are more than ready for our line expansion,” says Rieth. “Adding hand-crafted distilled spirits is the next step in growing our national-following even more.”
