Terrapin Beer Co. Hop Harvest Festival Only Three Weeks Away
Athens, GA – The time to secure your voucher for Terrapin Beer Co.’s 5th Annual Hop Harvest Festival is running out!
This year’s event will be held at the Terrapin brewery in Athens, GA, from 4:30 – 8:30 PM on Saturday, October 11 and will feature the special, limited-release beer So Fresh & So Green, Green along with eight single-hopped casks, each made with an experimental hop that is not yet commercially available.
Harvested in one day in Yakima Valley, Washington, the wet hops used to brew So Fresh & So Green, Green are flown overnight to Athens to be used in the brew within 36 hours of harvest. Brian “Spike” Buckowski, Terrapin co-founder and brewmaster, has recently revealed that the hop featured in this year’s So Fresh & So Green, Green is Simcoe. This earthy, citrusy hop is among the most popular in the craft beer industry, so what better time to come give it a try than at this night dedicated to hops?
Other hop-related activities of the night will include the crowning of 2014’s Hop King and Queen, hop sack races, keg tosses, and the cutting of Terrapin’s hop bines. Guests will also have the opportunity to explore a local artisan market, all while sipping on the freshest beer in the southeast and listening to the bluegrass tunes of this year’s featured band, Sailing to Denver.
Artisan vendors include Phickles Pickles, Double Dutch Press, handmade soaps by Camille Staley, Beca Designs, Beer Connoisseur, Hopunion, Weevil Outdoor Supply Company, and the Terrapin Merch Tent. Athens artist – and designer of this year’s commemorative festival glass – Dana Jo Cooley, will also be on-site and overseeing a community art project.
Pre-sale vouchers, which will guarantee admission and a festival glass, are available online at www.terrapinbeer.com and can be purchased for $20, five dollars of which will be donated to Dogwood Alliance. While glasses may still be available for purchase at the gate the day of the event, Terrapin advises securing pre-sale vouchers online beforehand due to the likelihood of selling out.
