San Diego Beer Week – Dr. Bill Mania Runnin’ Wild
For those of you who don’t know, Stone Brewing hired a craft beer national treasure in Dr. Bill Sysak two years ago. Dr. Bill is one of the original craft beer aficionados, who has traveled the world tasting beers, as well as building his knowledge on pairing fine craft beer with foods like cheese, chocolates and other gourmet foods. Once Bill got on board with Stone Brewing, he has had the ability to share his wealth of knowledge with Stone Brewing’s large fan base, as well as the hardcore beer geek base in the area.
With San Diego Beer Week on the horizon, we got a LONG list of events that Dr. Bill will be hosting to celebrate craft beer, beer and food culture, as well as the amazing array of local craft breweries here in SoCal. You might be overwhelmed, but please, try and catch a few of these events at the very least. – Cheers, TFP
Friday 11/5 (9-noon)– Rare Beer Breakfast – A beer festival in the gardens with 25 rare beers on tap, a full breakfast buffet, think truffles & caviar, and a jazz trio playing, a new Dr. Bill festival.
Saturday 11/6 (6pm) – Firestone Walker 14th Anniversary Kick-off – We’ll be the first to tap Firestone’s 14th anniversary outside their brewery, with other great Firestone specialties. Firestone crew will be in attendance.
Sunday 11/7 2010 – Ultimate Beer & Chocolate (2 sessions in the afternoon) – 15 chocolates, 10 beers and 3 local chocolatiers – led by Dr. Bill.
Sunday 11/7 (4pm-10pm) – Mike’s Beer Cheese Returns to the Bistro – entrees created by Mike & Chef, special pairings from Dr. Bill.
Monday 11/8 (5-7pm) – Chuckapalooza – Over 25 beers from Green Flash on tap, with Chuck Silva on hand
Monday, 11/8 (7pm)– Beer U: History of Brewing in San Diego – Led by Ken Wright and Chuck Silva of Green Flash
Tuesday, 11/9 (6pm) – Brewmaster’s Dinner with Jeff Bagby & Patrick Rue An amazing dinner with beer from the Bruery and Pizza Port Carlsbad paired by Dr. Bill with every course
Wednesday, 11/10 (6pm) – Beer & Cigar Pairing Led by Steve Wagner & Dr. Bill on the mezzanine balcony. Charcuterie made by Jason Siebert, artisanal cheese selections and a special dessert by Chef Andrew, all paired by Dr. Bill. Special Guest Chuck Losito from Perdomo cigars.
Thursday, 11/11 (noon) – Lost Abbey & Stone Brewmaster’s Lunch led by Tomme Arthur and Steve Wagner, an amazing three course lunch featuring 2 beers paired with each course by Dr. Bill.
Thursday, 11/11 (7pm) – Women Only: Cooking with Beer led by Kathryn and Sam, featuring Chef Tausha.
Friday, 11/12 (all day) – A Decade of Double Bastard & Return of the Rings! Ten years of Double Bastard Ale and Arrogant Bastard Ale Onion Rings! Including the last case of 2002 Double Bastard.
Saturday, 11/13 (noon) – Maui Brewing: Aloha Saturday – Garrett Marrero of Maui Brewing will be bringing along more Maui beers than have ever been on draft in one place at one time on the mainland.
Sunday, 11/14 (noon-4pm) – Lady Dotty and the Diamonds – Our final event of San Diego Beer Week. Dr. Bill will be tapping the partial kegs from all these events and the kitchen will be making some top notch BBQ dishes out in the gardens.
About San Diego Beer Week
The second annual San Diego Beer Week runs November 5th through 14th, 2010 and features a wide variety of events highlighting San Diego’s vibrant craft beer culture. Last year boasted nearly 300 different events, and this year’s looking to be even better!
SDBW 2010 will feature beer dinners, festivals, rare bottle tastings, cheese pairings, brewery tours, classes, and more – there is truly something for everyone. Watch this space for announcements about lodging, transportation, exclusive hotel packages, and the events schedule.
