San Diego Beer Week 2011 – Ballast Point Brewing Events
San Diego Beer Week 2011 kicks off tomorrow and Ballast Point will be celebrating all week in grand fashion. With so many awesome beer events happening around town, there is no excuse for not having a good time. Our fair San Diego, the craft beer capital of the world, is throwing a week long party and any beer geek worth his (or her) hops owes it to themselves to take advantage. Below is a list of just some of the events Ballast Point will be participating in. We’ll see you out and about. Be safe and have fun!
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 4TH
Scripps Ranch Brewery:
Victory at Sea Day! Several vintages of our coffee vanilla Imperial Porter will be available side by side for your tasting pleasure. The 2pm brewery tour will be conducted by owner and founder of Ballast Point, Jack White.
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 5TH
San Diego Brewer’s Guild Festival at Liberty Station! Great beer from all the local breweries, awesome food and live music. A great festival in a beautiful setting. Not to be missed.
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 6TH
Scripps Ranch Brewery:
Paul Elder Day! Resident artist Paul Elder will be on hand to sign bottles, t-shirts, posters and other original art. Come by and toast the man who has created original Ballast Point logo.
Linda Vista Brewery /Home Brewmart:
Beginner Home Brew Class 2-5pm. Come learn all the basics of brewing beer in your own home. Reservations can be made for a $10 fee at Home Brewmart. (619) 295-2337. Space is limited.
O’Brien’s Pub:
An evening with Colby Chandler. Colby will be on hand pairing some of his favorite local beers with dishes created for the event by Tyson Blake and the good folks at O’briens. Reservations are recommended.
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 7TH
Scripps Ranch Brewery:
Pepper Beer Day! Several different pepper infused goodies will be on tap this day including Habanero Sculpin and Serrano Pale Ale. Come see what all the hype is about.
The Waterfront Bar:
Ballast Point Tap Takeover. Everyone else needs to step aside for a while as Ballast Point occupies every available tap for the day. Sure to be a great time at one of San Diego’s most historic watering holes.
Hotel Del Coronado:
Sliders and Beer Pairing. Cask Conditioned Calico Amber Ale, Ginger Big Eye IPA and Sea Monster Imperial Stout will each be paired with a uniquely delicious slider. Come have a beer with lead brewer James Murray.
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 8TH
Scripps Ranch Brewery:
Strong Ale Day! We will e tapping several high octane brews on this day including Dorado Double IPA, Barmy Apricot Honey Ale and Three Sheets Barleywine.
Linda Vista Brewery / Home Brewmart:
Behind the brewery with MIHO and Fiji Yogurt! Juan and our pals at MIHO are back serving up Victory at Sea duck tacos with local apple salsa alongside their awesome regular lineup of farm to table treats. Suggested beer pairings as well as a special yogurt from Fiji will also be available.
Tipsy Crow:
Ballast Point night with a cask of Victory at Sea! Tap the cask and taste a handful of other Ballast Point brews in the Gaslamp.
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 9TH
Scripps Ranch Brewery:
Spiced Beer Day! We will offer a variety of beers brewed with traditional and non-traditional spices. Indra Kunidra Export Stout (brewed with toasted coconut, cumin, cayenne and madras curry) will be featured alongside, Ginger Big Eye IPA, San Salvador Saison and others.

Phil’s BBQ:
Phil’s will be pouring several Ballast Point brews alongside their awesome mesquite BBQ in their special events center. $20 gets you BBQ, six tasters and a keeper pint glass!
The Local:
Ballast Point and Green Flash brewing share the spotlight tonight. Several rare beers from two of San Diego’s finest brewing outfits will be available in keeper pints for one night only.
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 10TH
Scripps Ranch Brewery:
Behind the brewery with MIHO! The MIHO truck makes the trek up to Scripps Ranch. In addition to their awesome regular lineup of farm to table treats, they will be serving up a Reuben sandwich made with their own specially cured corned beef and Sour Wench sauerkraut. Sour Wench Blackberry Ale and Sea Monster Imperial Stout will be among the special brews available.
Stone World Bistro:
Brewmaster’s Dinner. Our own Colby Chandler teams up with Stone’s Head Brewer Mitch Steele to present an awesome 5 course beer dinner. Full menu details can be found at the websites listed above, but make no mistake, you want to be there.
Bub’s at the Ballpark:
Total Tap Takeover: Bub’s will be pouring more than a dozen Ballast Point beers as well as a Sculpin CASK. It will be a great night to be downtown!
URGE Gastropub:
Ballast Point 4 ways. Ranch Bernardo’s hotspot will feature 4 different versions of Sculpin IPA and Victory at Sea, including CASKs of each. URGE is always comfy and serves up some great food, sure to be a good time.
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 11TH
Scripps Ranch Brewery:
Barrel Aged Beer Day! We will be pouring several examples of beers aged in oak barrels. Sextant Stout, Tongue Buckler and Navigator Dopplebock will be featured alongside the only keg of HOUT being poured anywhere during beer week. Sure to be a hit so get here early before it goes.
High Dive:
Tap Take Over: 20+ Ballast Brews plus Old Grove Gin and Three Sheets Rum. Need I say more?
SD Taproom:
Because ruling the High Dive isn’t enough, we will be commandeering the taps at the beach’s best craft beer bar. Lots of Ballast Point beers including a Victory at Sea CASK.
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 12TH
Linda Vista Brewery / Home Brewmart:
Cooperage D’etat! Similar to the Barrel Aged day at Scripps Ranch, except with about 15 extra beers! The entire “regular” beer lineup will be replaced with barrel aged specialties. Check out the entire list at SDBW.org
Terra American Bistro:
Beer Brunch. Get your day started off right with a six course menu featuring beer pairings for only $45! The perfect way to begin the final weekend of SD Beer Week!
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 13TH
Linda Vista Brewery / Home Brewmart:
Advanced All-grain Home Brew Class 12-5pm (SOLD OUT). Come join the crew at Home Brewmart as they brew a batch of all grain beer while you watch and learn.
The Lodge at Torrey Pines:
Chef’s Celebration. Local beers paired with dishes created by chefs from the finest restaurants around town, served in a beautiful setting. What more could you ask for on the last day of the best week of the year?
