A Personal Invite to Woodshop 8
Some of you may have heard of the legendary annual Woodshop Tasting. Some of you may have not. For those not familiar, a gentleman by the name of Chris Quiroga and his tight nit tasting buddies have put together a semi-underground mega-bottleshare featuring the who’s who of the trading groups and tasting groups in all of Southern California. I’ve attended the last 3 years, and can tell you first hand that this isn’t your average bottle share. Many like-minded folks break out their most special bottles from the cellar and some of the hardest to land trade bottles you’ll ever see under one roof. In addition to the insane bottle share, for the price of admission, you get access to hand selected rare and delicious tap offerings.
Anyway, I wouldn’t be rubbing this in your face if I wasn’t able to extend an invitation, so with that said, The Full Pint would like to invite you to the 8th Annual Woodshop Tasting at The Hermosillo in Highland Park, CA. Here is the important info on how to get your ticket and more info on the event itself. Scroll down for some draft list teasers. Jonny and I will be there and we hope to see you there. Cheers!
Your Invitation to The 8th Annual Woodshop Tasting
It is with great pleasure that we extend this formal invitation to The 8th Annual Woodshop Tasting, which will take place on Saturday, October 26th, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at The Hermosillo Club in Highland Park, Los Angeles. The Hermosillo is a great neighborhood craft beer bar in LA and the location of the upcoming Highland Park Brewing Company, and its owners have been longtime friends and supporters of Woodshops of yore, so we are very excited to be able to collaborate and co-host this latest chapter with them.
If you’re a Woodshop veteran and all you want to know is the bare essentials of the party so you can purchase your tickets, here you go…

For the uninitiated, here is a great deal more information…
The Woodshop Tasting is fashioned as an indulgent beer connoisseur’s beer festival and bottle-share. It is organized and run as a sort of underground beer nerd event by a small group of longtime, dedicated LA-area beer lovers, and is designed to showcase the best of what the craft beer world can offer, both locally and globally. This year’s party will feature much of the same Woodshop goodness of years past, with a nice variety of carefully selected draft offerings, special cask-conditioned beers, a massive bottle-share, and many other twists and wrinkles like beer-and-cheese pairings, a one-time Woodshop food menu, a blind tasting showdown, and probably even beer cocktails or another surprise or two we’re working on. As always, we encourage all guests to bring a bottle or few (or more) of the best beers from your cellar to share with any and all in attendance. We like to think of this tasting as a perfect occasion to sample those special bottles you’ve been saving for just the right moment.
The core draft beer line-up is still in the works, but rest assured that it will feature a diverse mix of many of the best beers made by many of the best brewers around. Past years’ line-ups have included beers like AleSmith Kopi Luwak Speedway and Barrel-Aged Speedway on Cask, Cigar City Rum Barrel-Aged Imperial Milk Porter, Alpine Duet, Moonlight Reality Czeck, Lost Abbey Framboise de Amorosa and Red Poppy, Beachwood Melrose IPA, Craftsman Sour Lavender, Firestone Barrel Aged Lil’ Opal, and The Bruery BeRazzled, to name a few. This year we’re working on a similarly diverse and excellent list. And all draft and cask beers will be included with your price of admission, to savor and enjoy to your heart’s content.
DRAFT LIST TEASERS:
I’m pretty sure these three will be world premieres….
– Highland Park Brewery Stonefruit Berliner Weisse – Berliner Weisse with Peaches and Nectarines
– Hoparazzi La Tarte Raspberry – Sour Ale with Raspberries
– Noble Ale Works Fig Poppa – Brandy barrel-aged American Strong Ale with dried figs and Brett Brux
And I’m pretty sure these three that are a little more familiar will not go unloved….
– Almanac Dogpatch Sour – Wine barrel-aged Flanders Red with Rainier cherries, wild yeast, and souring bugs
– Firestone Walker Stickee Monkee – Barrel-aged English Barley Wine
– The Bruery Grey Monday – Bourbon barrel-aged Imperial Stout (Black Tuesday) with hazelnuts
– Lost Abbey Churchills Finest Sour 2013 (You heard it hear first kids)
Woodshop 8 will run from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM, after which point The Hermosillo will open to the general public (but the Woodshop-only beer and food offerings will no longer be available). You can of course feel free to stay and continue to enjoy the excellent food and drink of the regular Hermosillo Club menu. Call it an “on-site afterparty.”
ATTENDANCE CAPACITY NOTE:
Please understand that there is a very limited attendance capacity for this event, and also that we are not using a ticketing website to process ticket purchases. As a result, we do not have a direct way to control the ticket “inventory” as people pay. So if you make a PayPal payment and we are already at our event capacity, we will have to refund your money and add you to a waiting list to be notified if any additional tickets become available. There is an attendance cap for this event, and we expect it to sell out very quickly. Once the event is SOLD OUT, we will send an email to this newsletter, and also update the RateBeer and BeerAdvocate Events pages with information as soon as possible, so please check here or there first if you want to avoid submitting money for a sold-out event. If you make a payment and we still have space available, you will get a confirmation email within a day or two of your payment. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience or frustration with this system, but please know that we are doing everything we can to maximize the capacity for our event space, and also to accommodate safely all of those in attendance with the best party we can provide. Unfortunately, once we are at our maximum building capacity, that’s it!
For further extrapolation on the specifics of some things that are included in the price of admission, and to get some idea of how this year’s event will function…
– One custom tasting glass with your admission. Additional glassware will be available for purchase, and feel free to bring in any extra glassware of your own that you would like to use. The Hermosillo may also have some non-logo glassware available for you to use, if you ask nicely.
– Unlimited tastes from Guest Kegs and bottles provided by party sponsors and organizers.
– Tasters from a few “Special” Kegs as available. One or two kegs may be reserved to serve at a designated time during the day.
– Participation in the bottle-share that spans the entire party. Bring some beer. We will have cooling stations available with ice throughout the party space.
PLEASE BRING PHOTO ID TO THE PARTY. YOU WILL BE ASKED FOR PROOF OF AGE AT THE DOOR AND TO VERIFY YOUR PAYMENT OF ADMISSION.
NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF 21 WILL BE ADMITTED TO THIS EVENT.
