Sunday the 8th showcases the hottest bluegrass band in the area Lyonites The Spring Creek Bluegrass band www.springcreekbluegrassband.com this young band is full of great pickers and singers and are sure to impress, get there early to get a seat or just dance the night away.
One of the best living acoustic country blues players in the world will be here Sunday the 15th the day after his appearance at the Greeley Blues festival. Paul Geremia www.paulgeremia.org from Rhode Island learned from the old masters and is a modern day master himself. Do not miss this show if you like acoustic blues, he will knock you out with what he can do.
Dikki Du & the Zydeco Krewe www.dikkidu.com will return Sunday the 22nd with his jumping brand of high-energy zydeco from Lawtell Louisiana. Et Tois!!
The last Sunday the 29th will feature another great acoustic blues guitarist Joe Price www.joepriceblues.com from Iowa joined by his lovely wife Vickie on a few. Joe is an incredible National steel guitar player that will leave you in awe of his playing and personality from stage.
Weekday Music
Don’t forget our acoustic plug-in jam & open stage on the second Monday of every month. This month on the 9th the group of musicians from the Colorado Blues society gets together in an informal setting trading blues tunes, so come on over and join in or just have a Dale’s and listen.
Then of course we have our Bluegrass pick every Tuesday night hosted by K. C. Groves and Eric Thorin, all levels are welcome come on by and bring your acoustic instrument and join the best pick by far in Boulder County.
Thursdays this month start on the 5th with Kort McCumber and the McCumberland Gap www.Kortmusic.com, Kort can play just about anything with strings and sings and writes great songs and always puts together and great band to play with him. His latest CD features Sally Van Meter and Vince Gill so be prepared for great roots music.
Thursday the 12th will feature a great acoustic show by Halden Wofford and the Hi-Beams www.hibeams.com. The Hi-Beams will always fill the joint so get there early, this will be a laid back acoustic show you won’t want to miss.
The Boulder Acoustic Society www.boulderacousticsociety.net will be at Oskar’s on Thursday the 19th with their special eclectic brand of roots music always a treat to hear and dance to, these guys put on a great show.
The 26th will be a highlight with bluegrass from K. C. Groves and Kristin Andreassen from Uncle Earl www.kcgroves.com these two ladies will really put on a great show as they are very professional and wonderful musicians.
Weekend Music
The weekends begin Friday June 6th (due to a last minute cancellation J.J. Callier is not coming to Colorado) but Mr. Fabulous better known as Rex Peoples and X-factr www.myspace.com/rexpeoplesxfactr have agreed to play their great Blues & R&B for us that night. Rex has a voice that is gospel drenched and oh so pleasing and the band is very tight and danceable.
Saturday the 7th will feature Mary Russell and her blues band www.maryjonesrussell.com originally from Texas Mary started singing at an early age. Mary is more than capable of singing Blues or Country but this band will mostly play hard driving blues for you this night, but don’t be surprised if country style tunes sneak into her sets. What a voice!!.
The next weekend we will see two great female blues singers who just happen to be playing the Greeley blues festival, Delores Scott from Chicago and the Colorado All Stars will be here on the 13th. Delores has sung on over 50 Chicago Blues albums and toured and sang with KoKo Taylor for many years. She is a delight and really knows how to have a good time.
Miss Blues www.missblues.com will he here on Saturday the 14th with the Curly “no shoes” Jr. band. Miss blues is a blues shouter and a member of the Oklahoma Hall of Fame. Her vocals prowess and story telling capabilities with leave you speechless with respect for this amazing woman.
Talking about great vocalist one of my favorite Blues/ soul singers in the world is going to be at Oskars on Friday June 20th Mr. Terry Evans www.myspace.com/terryevansblues Terry is a great performer and can sing like no one else. He has performer and recorded with John Fogerty, Ry Cooder, John Lee Hooker, Boz Scaggs and Maria Muldour to name a few. Originally from Vicksburg Mississippi this is one you will not forget soon.
On Saturday the 21st we will revive The Women’s All Star Revue, this time we will shuffle 22 wonderfully different ladies on and off the stage. We will be starting at 8:30pm and going all the way to 1:30am due to the amount of gals and music this night. If you caught the last one I don’t have to tell you the estrogen will be raging and the music very satisfying. This night is also a fund-raiser by Jodi Woodward for the wonderful Candye Kane who is recovering from cancer, with no insurance, please attend and contribute.
Well stand back and get ready for the return of your favorite blues/rocker Jason Ricci & New Blood www.jasonricci.com if you have seen Jason I don’t have to tell you it will be an event unlike any other show. If you have not seen Jason you need to experience one of the wildest and best shows out there. Not only a great singer and harmonica player (bar none), but also a great songwriter with more energy than any player to ever hit the stage at Oskar Blues. But don’t take my word for it just ask any one who has seen him perform and better yet get yourself an early ticket and be there, you won’t be disappointed.
Saturday the 28th ends the weekends with the high-energy party band the Informants www.theinformants.com recently named the best bar band by Westword for 2008, They are a bit nasty and loads of fun with a fabulous lead singer and great horn section. It’s going to be wild so be ready. June’s calendar is over the top with a great wide variety of music.
