Deschutes Base Camp Hits San Diego During CBC

Deschutes Brewery brings its Base Camp campaign to San Diego during the infamous Craft Brewers Conference for an amazing week of specialty beer tastings, beer and food pairings, and appearances by Woody, the giant beer barrel on wheels. Deschutes brewers, ambassadors and fanatics will be on hand to provide some in-the-trenches insight into our courageously crafted brews.

What is Base Camp you may ask? It’s a place where Deschutes Brewery offers beer fanatics a spot to “pitch a tent” of sorts – and find their footing with the cornerstone of Mirror Pond Pale Ale. Deschutes Brewery Base Camp Week is a celebration of Mirror Pond’s easy-drinking goodness, along with many more of the brewery’s passion-heavy, pioneering brews. The Deschutes Brewery team is traveling around to cities all over the west this year, providing passionate fans with a seriously fun exploration of beer. Make the trek to Base Camp. He will be rolling his way around San Diego during Base Camp Week, complete with multiple delicious Deschutes Brewery beers, a stereo, and a disco ball. He is a natural gathering spot at any event for all thirsty individuals (and any misplaced members of your party).

WHAT: Deschutes Brewery Celebrates the Industry – Beer 101 & Scavenger Hunt
No one will deny it: scavenger hunts equal good times! Couple a scavenger hunt with a little Beer 101 and damn tasty beer – you get pure fabulousness. Join us at JRDN @ Tower 23 Hotel for a tasty class about beer. Then hunt for “treasure” all over Pacific Beach in costume, or not. Wash it all down with the San Diego debut of Deschutes Brewery’s thirst-quenching Chainbreaker White IPA. While the sun sets over the Pacific Ocean. Memories are made like this. WHAT: Base Camp Kick-Off Party
Join us as we kick-off nearly a week of celebratory beer drinking made possible by Deschutes Brewery’s Base Camp. The week is packed with events to honor the noble beverage that is craft beer, but perhaps most notable is the San Diego debut of Deschutes Brewery’s newest brew – Chainbreaker White IPA. To complement the ride of this new beer, we’ll also be pouring everyone’s favorite, Mirror Pond Pale Ale.

WHAT: Hats Off to Homebrewers & Hop Lovers
Attention homebrewers and hop lovers…come hone your craft and satisfy your appetite at an event not to be missed! Deschutes Brewery from Oregon is teaming up with local favorites Green Flash Brewing Company, San Diego Brewing Company and Coronado Brewing Company to feed the insatiable hop hunger of San Diego.

Deschutes Brewery will offer clone recipe booklets and bags of whole flower hops for use in your next homebrew. The very last bit of the brewery’s Hop Henge Experimental IPA will be on draft – a final chance to savor the brewery’s imposing imperial IPA. Deschutes Brewery Brewmaster Cam O’Connor will be present to discuss specialty ingredients and insights about the Deschutes Brewery brewhouses. And representatives from Green Flash, San Diego Brewing, and Coronado will be around to compare notes and IBUs. Hope to see you here!

WHAT: Celebrating Women and Craft Beer/The Love of Beer DVD Release Party
Released in select theaters and festivals last year, The Love of Beer is a documentary film that celebrates women in the craft brew industry. It’s not for feminism or equality, it’s for “The Love of Beer.” Come hobnob with film producer Alison Grayson and a few of her film stars, as well as some of the visionary women of the San Diego craft beer scene. Sample chocolate truffles made with Deschutes Brewery beer, by Tess Brown, owner and chocolatier of Chi Chocolat. Paired with a peerless selection of Deschutes beers such as Mirror Pond Pale Ale, Black Butte Porter, Chainbreaker White IPA, Inversion IPA, Nitro Obsidian Stout, Red Chair Northwest Pale Ale and The Abyss, there is something for everyone. The “icing on the truffle” means a portion of the proceeds from the evening are donated to the Keep-A-Breast Foundation, a charity organization dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer.

Love beer? Cheese? Want to learn what charcuterie is? Watch the crew from BevMo and Deschutes Brewery attempt to answer all queries! Deschutes Brewery’s giant traveling beer barrel, Woody, will be on hand as well, spreading merriment and cheer. The true pleasure will be in the pairing. Some of BevMo’s finest cheeses and charcuterie will be paired with a wide selection of beers such as Mirror Pond Pale Ale, Black Butte Porter, Inversion IPA, Obsidian Stout, Red Chair Northwest Pale Ale , Black Butte XXIII and The Stoic.

What’s better than an evening full of craft beer from Deschutes Brewery? An evening full of craft beer coupled with intriguing Burlesque dancers and exquisitely-paired food. The ladies of the night will showcase four different Deschutes Brewery beers throughout the night, as guests enjoy Executive Chef Bill Sauer’s special menu items – which are all made with Deschutes Brewery beer! Both the Hillcrest and La Jolla Whole Foods will be teaming up with Deschutes Brewery out of Bend, Oregon on Friday afternoon to talk about cooking with the brewery’s award winning beers. Both locations will present “cooking with Deschutes Brewery beer demonstrations.” And of course, sampling is guaranteed! If you’re able to try all the samples at both stores, you could even win a prize!

That’s right… we’re welcoming the gang from Deschutes Brewery as part of their Base Camp for Beer Fanatics. What does that mean for you? You can spend Friday evening having a blast on both levels of The Tipsy Crow chatting about hand-crafted brews with the experts, while sipping on creations like the brand-new Chainbreaker White IPA, and the iconic Mirror Pond Pale Ale and Black Butte Porter. All this while grooving to the beats of our DJ in The Underground (starting at 9pm) or with The John Hull Band on The Main.

You can spend Friday evening chatting about hand-crafted brews with the experts, while sipping on brews like the brand-new Chainbreaker White IPA and the iconic Mirror Pond Pale Ale. We’re even hoping for a sighting of Woody, Deschutes Brewery’s giant traveling beer barrel.

WHAT: Burgers and Beer Extravaganza
Some things are just better in pairs. And nothing combines more naturally than burgers and craft beer. That’s why we’re hosting the Great Burger Design Competition with our friends from Deschutes Brewery – hours of fun with a gigantic line up of beers and a grill full of meat. On draft? No less than: Mirror Pond Pale Ale, Black Butte Porter, Inversion IPA, , Red Chair Northwest Pale Ale , Hop Henge Experimental IPA, the brand-new Chainbreaker White IPA, the never-released Black Butte XXII, Black Butte XXIII and Nitro Obsidian Stout. Live music from The Fab Lushes will be rocking the house from 2-5pm.

In town for the Craft Brewers Conference? We’ll have a free shuttle running from the Town and Country Resort between 1-6pm.
