Bottoms Up! A Growler Station Grows In The West Village

New York City is bracing for a full-on beer growler experience as The Growler Station opens its doors yesterday, January 20th.

The Growler Station is poised to be a beer connoisseur’s heaven and a novice hop head’s dream. The retail store will offer 24 craft beers as well as a root beer and an apple ginger cream soda on tap. The craft beers on tap will be available for purchase in 32-ounce and 64-ounce glass growlers (refillable jugs that keep beer fresh longer), and a two liter called the “Beast.” Four of the taps will be dedicated to imported European craft beers. In addition, they will have 300 plus labels by the bottle.

And, since good food makes good beer taste better, an assortment of artisanal foods like high-end beef jerky, barrel pickles, pretzels, goat cheeses and hot sauces. The Growler station even carries its own line of specialty nuts called GS’s Nutsack (yes, we’re serious).

“We want to be the go to place for all your entertaining needs, a party in a box if you will,” said co-owner John O’Connell. “We pride ourselves on offering one of the largest on-tap selections of craft beers for retail in the city, and a knowledgeable staff that can provide information to the well-versed beer drinker as well as the beginner.”

Brew enthusiasts can also sort through the hoppy details of each beer on tap, not to mention sort by color, bitterness, alcohol level and even check out food and beer pairing suggestions by clicking on the Growler Stations own Beer Wizard App from two iPads at the front of the store. Beer buyers can even recommend what beers they think the Growler Stations should offer on tap next!

Some of the craft beers featured at The Growler Station are Widmer Bros Pitch Black IPA, Capt. Lawrence Freshchester, Ramstein Double Platinum, Wandering Angus Anthem Cherry, Hopfenstark Ostalgia Blonde, and Gavechopke/Tilted Hands Bitter Sweet Symphony.
