American Craft Beer Week 2011 – Oskar Blues Comes to Pittsburgh
America’s #1 Craft Beer In A Can Honors Pittsburgh During American Craft Beer Week with Visit May 17-19
PITTSBURGH… For the first time in its six year history, American Craft Beer Week, May 16-22, will see official events hosted in all 50 states, making it the largest-ever celebration of U.S. craft brewers. Dale Katechis, “soul founder” of Oskar Blues and America’s #1 craft beer in a can, Dale’s Pale Ale, is making a personal visit to the Iron City throughout the week.
New beer lovers and seasoned enthusiasts will raise glasses of their favorite IPA, amber, stout—or anything in-between—to honor the more than 1,700 small and independent craft brewers responsible for the vibrant American craft beer scene. Oskar Blues happens to be the trailblazer of the canned craft beer revolution.
Dale’s (yes that Dale) beer soaked visit kicks off with Craft Beer School at the Cabaret at Theater Square at 6:15, on Tuesday, May 17. The sure-bet good time presentation includes a sampling of four Oskar Blues beers, a Q&A session, and great door prizes. Doors open at 5:45pm, grab tickets now as this event is sure to sell out. Katechis will share beers and swap stories at a “Meet the Brewer” night at Bocktown Beer (www.bocktown.com ) on Wednesday, May 18 in Pittsburgh and host a Canned Craft Beer Dinner at “Headkeeper” in Greensburg, Pa., on May 19. www.theheadkeeper.com
From there Dale will grab his single speed REEB bike (www.REEBcycles.com ), the bike company that ignited in April in response to his bike being stolen, and point it to Dirt Rag Magazine’s mountain bike festival, DIRT FEST, at the Allegrippis Trails at Raystown Lake, PA. The festival creates an environment based the hearty spirit for adventure, great riding, festivity, camaraderie and will feature Oskar Blues Beer in their Brewers Grove. www.dirtragmag.com/dirtfest
Set in the heart of Colorado craft beer country, Oskar Blues Brewery in Lyons began canning its beers in November of 2002 with a hand-canning line in the 60- year-old barn next door to their funky little brewpub. Although it’s now a full-throttle canning operation that is quickly expanding its cult-like following across the nation, Oskar Blues remains true to its original mission of simply blowing minds with what can come out of a can of beer.
The year 2010 was an explosive growth year for Oskar Blues. The brewery is #36 Craft Brewing Company and the #49 Top Brewing Company in the country, according to the Brewer’s Association’s annual list based on 2010 beer sales volume.
