Wynkoop Silverback Pale Ale
From Wynkoop – The beer is made in small, 20-barrel batches with American two-row and specialty malts and four US hops. The beer’s rich aroma comes courtesy of Wynkoop head brewer Andy Brown’s handmade “Hopinator” hopback device, filled with whole-leaf Centennial hops. The beer is also made with a dose of Grains of Paradise, an African spice that imparts a lemony, pepper-like quality to the beer. The spice is a vital part of the mountain gorilla diet and aids in reducing heart disease in these highly endangered apes.
Wynkoop Brewing – Wynkopp Silverback Pale Ale – 12 oz. can poured into a pint glass. 5.5% abv.
Appearance: Pours a cloudy amber orange with a sudsy 1/4 inch cap of white foam. Leaves a small amount of lacing behind.
Aroma: Pine, pineapple, toffee, lemon zest, sugar.
Taste: Savory spice, lemon, butter scotch (diacetyl?), and earthy hops in the finish.
Mouthfeel: Thin with modest carbonation.
Overall: Interesting, unique, but not my cup of tea for a pale ale. Points awarded for going off the beaten path.
