Victory Dark Intrigue Batch 1
From Victory – Since its arrival in 1997, our Storm King Stout has enticed folks to “discover the dark intrigue” as its label suggests. While enjoying that great imperial stout, we have been intrigued by the myriad of flavors it exhibits, and encouraged to test the limits of perception and pleasure by adding to the rich experience of Storm King Stout. So here you have such a exploration, involving Storm King Stout aged in oak barrels that once matured Kentucky bourbon. Blended to perfection, this one is surely dark and intriguing!
Victory Brewing – Victory Dark Intrigue Batch 1, enjoyed October 2011 – 750 ml. bottle poured into a goblet. 9.1% abv.
Appearance: Pours black with creamy tan edges.
Aroma: Dark chocolate. Light booze barrel. Dark fruit.
Taste: Roast, wood, dark fruit, chocolate.
Mouthfeel: Creamy , full bodied. Modest carbonation.
Overall: I love Storm King, and was expecting more bourbon barrel notes to take it to the next level. Unfortunately, this was one of the more tame bourbon barrel Imperial Stout’s I’ve tried.
