Tröegs Nugget Nectar
From Tröegs: Squeeze those hops for all they’re worth and prepare to pucker up: Nugget Nectar Ale, will take hopheads to nirvana with a heady collection of Nugget, Warrior and Tomahawk hops. Starting with the same base ingredients of our flagship HopBack Amber Ale, Nugget Nectar intensifies the malt and hop flavors to create an explosive hop experience.
Tröegs Brewing – Tröegs Nugget Nectar – Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass.7.5% abv. Purchased at Dawson’s Liquors in Severna Park, MD.
Appearance: More rust, less straw than indicated above. Thick, buttercream colored head. Heavy lacing.
Smell: Canned fruit, specifically cling peaches and mandarin oranges. Pine is very faint.
Taste: Nice and bitter. Plenty of hops all the way through, but they really pack a wallop on the finish.
Mouthfeel: At first, the sip is rich if not creamy, then thins out and finishes clean.
Drinkability: By itself, this is a monster. Paired with grilled meats, it’s fantastic and goes down far too easy for a 7.5% beer.

I don’t remember if they have any more of this or not. I wrote that review a while ago and it’s just now been posted. It’s a bit pricey for me to buy on the regular, though. $10/six pack or $7/bomber is my limit right now. The exception will be when they get in the Southern Tier Creme Brulee Milk Stout.

Great review Don. I agree Nugett Nectar goes down way too easy with a steak or burger.. how can we convince Troges this should be a year round offering??
I stopped in Dawson’s last night to pick up some loose cannon and saw the they still had some Nugget Nectar in 22oz Bombers! They must have stocked a ton because I havent seen that in other liquor stores for a month or so now. I’m embarrassed for my so-called hophead friends still living in SP that didn’t drink that up sooner. I’m a huge fan of Nugget Nectar and cleared a lot of Annapolis liquor store shelves hording my short lived supply. I’ll be stopping by Dawsons again this weekend to pick up some if its still around… It’s time to compare my homebrew.
