The Bruery White Chocolate
From The Bruery – The primary component of our “White Oak” ale is a 100% barrel aged wheat wine that we affectionately refer to as “White Oak Sap.” Essentially a “summer” barley-wine style ale, but made with a wheat heavy grain base, White Oak Sap is aged in used bourbon barrels for nearly a year and comes out rich in flavors of coconut, honey, caramel and vanilla. To compliment the already rich flavors of the beer, we’ve added cacao nibs and vanilla beans to give this beer the delicate flavor of white chocolate…hence the name.
The Bruery – The Bruery White Chocolate – 750 ml. bottle poured into a snifter. 14% abv.
Appearance: Pours a honey color with a white ring of bubbles. Swishing it around doesn’t produce any significant head action.
Aroma: Vanilla, custard, cookie dough, bourbon.
Taste: Heavy bourbon with some nice barrel character. Vanilla, caramel and a touch of tart apple. Very inviting.
Mouthfeel: Thick but not syrupy or cloying, soft carbonation. For the abv level, not hot.
Overall: Along the lines of the recently released Fruet, this is one of the most cohesive 14% ales you will find. Very smooth, rich, inviting, and super yummy. I look forward to playing around with this beer by blending it with Chocolate Rain or Black Tuesday. Definitely a dessert beer.
