Tender Greens Collaborates with El Segundo Brewing Company for Schot in Het Donker
The folks at El Segundo Brewing have been pretty busy this summer with releases of new bottles and a brand spankin’ new IPA called Grand Hill. Somehow, these south bay brewers have also found the time to collaborate with the increasingly popular California chain, Tender Greens. ESBC linked up with Tender Greens’ Eric Hulme last month who was high off the heels of completing a one week Introduction to Practical Brewing over at UC Davis.
The result? An easy-sipping summer saison called Schot in Het Donker, which translates to Shot in the Dark in Dutch. In keeping with the Tender Greens tradition of using farm-fresh ingredients, the team came together to produce a classic-style saison using Belgian yeast and over 300 pounds of locally grown cherries. This mark’s El Segundo’s first brew using a Belgian yeast strain (and hopefully it won’t be their last). We dropped in on Tender Greens Hollywood recently to try this refreshing brew ourselves. The beer presented a beautiful golden-orange hue with a light white head. Schot in Het Donker is a dry, nuanced brew with subtle cherry and stone fruit notes and a structured saison yeast presence. Schot in Het Donker is available at select southern California Tender Greens locations and is priced at $6 a pint.
