Sun King Oskar Blues CHAKA
From Sun King – CHAKA is a delicious Belgian-style ale crafted with a blend of ingredients from each brewery’s home state: Shagbark Hickory syrup from Hickoryworks in Trafalgar, Ind.; grain from Colorado Malting Company; and a special yeast blend from Brewing Science Institute, also in Colorado. Brewers from both breweries worked together to formulate the recipe and traveled between Colorado and Indiana to brew at both locations.
Sun King Brewing – Sun King Oskar Blues CHAKA – 16 oz. aluminum bottle poured into a goblet. 8% abv.
Appearance: Pours a dark ruby with no head.
Aroma: Big fruity nose:apple /pear. Belgian yeast.
Taste: Fruity esters, candi sugar ,spicy hops. Some red apple as well. There was very so slight apparent alcohol.
Mouthfeel: Prickly, juicy,medium bodied.
Overall: As far as the beer goes, it was very tasty, very balanced, and would like to try more. As for the container, to me, it’s ugly as hell and seems like a bad fit for a Belgian-style beer. With that said, I got a real kick out of the idea of having some now, screwing back on the lid, and saving it for later. Honestly, looking at the container had me judging the book by it’s cover, and luckily, the beer was very tasty.
