Review – Wachusett Brewing Blueberry Ale
Wachusett Brewing Blueberry Ale – Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a room temperature pint glass. 4.4% abv
Appearance
Pale yellow with two fingers of bright white head on top of the glass. Tiny carbonation bubbles take turns floating up to the top of the glass.
Aroma
Fresh and toasty blueberry biscuits or pancakes. Has a really light and airy vibe to it.
Taste
Not as much blueberry as I expected from the smell. The fruity flavors from the ale yeast blend nicely with the freshness of the blueberries and make for a real unique taste. The hop bitterness adds a complex component as well.
Mouthfeel
A little thin and dry at first but the fruit eventually lends this ale some substance and sweetness.
Overall
I was delighted to see this fruit beer on the shelf at a small specialty beer store in Mount Holly, NJ last week. Having spent a good amount of time talking with “Howie,” the head brewer at Wachusett recently, I learned that their blueberry ale is really Wachusett’s flagship beer and number 1 seller. Now I know why. I am an instant fan of this crisp, light and easy-to-drink beer.
