Review – Southern Tier Imperial Creme Brulee Milk Stout
From contributor Cohiba Don in Maryland….
Southern Tier Imperial Creme Brulee Milk Stout 10% abv.
Purchased at Dawson’s Liquors in Severna Park, MD. Poured from a 22oz bottle into a pint glass after 1 hour of refrigeration.
Appearance: Dark mahogany with rays of burgundy when held up to the light. Nice, 3/4″ creamy head with good retention and lacing.
Aroma: Just like the name says, creme brulee. Lots of vanilla, caramel and custard. There are just a hint of the horizon hops; you’ve really got to be looking for them and take several tiny sniffs to catch them or the sweetness overwhelms your sinuses.
Flavor: Like dessert in a bottle. Make no mistake, this is a very sweet beer, however it’s not as syrupy as the name might suggest. The typical flavors of the stout are very subtle and there’s hardly any hoppiness. Lots of vanilla, maple and cream.
Mouthfeel: Only slightly syrupy (kind of like pure maple syrup that they sell to tourists in Vermont as opposed to the thicker stuff you get in the grocery store). Has a good finish that lingers just long enough.
Drinkability: This so sweet that I don’t think I could drink more than one glass in a sitting. It’d be kind of like eating too much birthday cake. I’ll be saving the rest for another day.

I’m glad you posted this as I was going to go looking for it soon. I think I may wait until the weather cools off a bit before opening up this year’s bottling. I’m not sure why they make such a huge, sweet beer in the summer. I always associate this kind of beer with cold days.
