Review – Sierra Nevada Porter
From Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. – Dark and rich, Sierra Nevada Porter is a delicious, medium-bodied ale with a creamy head. The Porter’s smooth flavor (malty with hints of caramel) comes from a blend of deep-roasted barley malts.
Sierra Nevada Brewing – Sierra Nevada Porter – 12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. 5.6% abv. Purchased at Santa Anita Wines and Spirits, Arcadia, CA.
Appearance: Pours a dark brown, that lets in about 10% light. A picture perfect foamy head sits atop, and leaves behind webby lacing.
Aroma: Chocolate and roasty malts, and some trademark Sierra Nevada hops.
Taste: Bitter crisp hops, iced coffee, roasted malt. Finishes with a bitter roasted coffee flavor. A little bit spicy.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied, thick.
Overall: A great, hoppy porter. When I first tried this beer many years ago, I didn’t care for it, largely because of the Sierra Nevada trademark hopping. Now I love this beer, and need to make up for lost time.
