Review – Saison Dupont
From Brasserie Dupont – The brewery has cultured their yeast for taste and aromatic qualities. Because Dupont basically only sells beer from the brewery, they haven’t concerned themselves with developing a yeast that travels well. For the uninitiated, the look of the beer is daunting. However, the sweetest rewards await the adventurous.
Brasserie Dupont – Saison Dupont Vieille Provision – 375ml bottle poured into a beer goblet. 6.5% abv.
Appearance: A vibrant amber gold, with cloudy yeast particles highly visable. A top this cloudy golden wonder, sits a fluffy, pillowy layer of suds, subsiding to a half inch.
Aroma: Musty water, fruity yeast, light malt, and a very small whiff of earthy hop.
Taste: Lemon, dry, bread crusty malt. Finishes with a dry crisp, bitter hop finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied mouthfeel, with a nice ‘sparkling water’ level of carbonation.
Overall: A really refreshing, flavorful, yet simple beer. This should be easy to find, where Belgian beer is sold.
