Review – Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar
From Rogue Brewing – Dedicated to the homebrewer in each of us! The homebrewer who inspired this creation is Chris Studach, a friend of Rogue’s resident wizard John Maier, who added a Northwest twist to the classic style by adding hazelnuts for the host homebrew at the 1993 American Homebrewers Association
convention. Chris put the nut in nut brown!
Rogue Brewing – Hazelnut Brown Nectar – 22 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. 6.2% abv. Purchased at Whole Foods Market Pasadena, CA.
Appearance: Pours a dark amber with a tight knit, creamy 1/2 inch of head.
Aroma: Hazelnut syrup for coffee, toasted oats, and wheat bread.
Taste: Bread crust, bitter hops, roasted nuts, caramel malts. The beer finishes with a subtle sour/sweet fruitiness I associate with doppelbocks.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied.
Overall: A very full flavored, well crafted beer. Although the aroma is sweet, the beer is well balanced, borderlining dry.
