Review – New Glarus Unplugged Berliner Weiss
From New Glarus Brewing: Napoleon hailed this tart beer style “the Champagne of the North”. A lively and elegant masterpiece this Berliner Weiss is a kaleidoscope of fresh flavor. Barrel fermentation, Pinot Grigio, Riesling grapes and Wisconsin White Wheat are bottle fermented with five proprietary yeast strains. A connoisseur’s rare jewel both spirited and subtle, Enjoy your sparking toast under summer stars.
New Glarus Brewing Co. – Unplugged – Berliner Weiss – 12 oz. bottle poured into a taster glass. Unknown Abv. From trade on ratebeer.
Appearance: Pours a pale gold with no head. Light gets through, but no objects.
Aroma: Light amounts of fresh cut lemon.
Taste: Lemon juice, sour patch kids, and seltzer water.
Mouthfeel: Thin and sparkley.
Overall: Needs a tad more flavor, but I enjoy this beer none the less. I would like to seek out a Berliner Weiss in Berlin, to see how close this, The Bruery’s, and Dog Fish Head’s Berliner’s compare to the real thing.
