Review – Lagunitas Hop Stoopid Ale
From thefullpint.com: Hop Stoopid Ale is a wonderful beer under Lagunitas’ ‘Sonoma Farmhouse’ label. Unfortunately, there isn’t any info on lagunitas.com as to when this is available or where it is distributed. The best thing to do is chat up your local beer bar or local fine beer store for availability.
Lagunitas Brewing – Sonoma Farmhouse Hop Stoopid Ale – Chilled draft beer poured into a room temperature pint glass.
8.2% abv. Enjoyed at Toronado in San Francisco, CA.
Appearance
Dull orange-red color with lots of hop haze. Good amount of fluffy white head that left behind nice tight rings on the glass.
Aroma
Strong grapefruit smell with an essence of pine notes. Not quite as fruity as most IIPAs. Also has some bread/yeast smells in the background.
Taste
Juicy and sweet from all the malt used. Hints of silky caramel and over-ripened fruit. Great balance of hops to malt, creating a rich and easy to drink hop bomb.
Mouthfeel
Very little sticky characteristics in this unusually smooth IIPA. I was expecting a thick and rich mass on my tongue but was pleasantly surprised.
Overall
This is one of the best IIPAs I have had to date. I am very impressed and hope that I can find this at my local beer store. I enjoyed this during my beer tasting last month at the Toronado in San Francisco, CA. I liked it so much that although there were plenty of other unique beers on tap to try, that I had to double-dip and have a second pint. Kudos Brewmaster!
