Review – He’Brew Bittersweet Lenny’s R.I.P.A.

Found this 22oz Double IPA at 10% abv made with Rye Malt at Bevmo Pasadena. I have never had a He’Brew before, but for some reason, this one caught my eye. I am not familiar with the Jewish entertainers of the country, but I believe this series is paying homage to Jewish entertainers. Like with the Frank Zappa series from Lagunitas, I am not so concerned with what the beer is honoring, as much as how yummy it tastes.

Appearance: Poured into a Old Guardian tulip. Huge, foamy beige head. Brew is a reddish orange, like a young barley wine.

Aroma: Fresh cantaloupe, malt and a tickle of spicy hops.

Taste: Tastes like a very hoppy barley wine or a malt intense Double IPA. You can spin it either way, and make a great argument. Each sip makes it hard to differentiate between hops and alcohol heat. A hint of apricot can be found in the finish.

Mouthfeel: Very warm, like a dark hard liquor. Sticky and syrupy coating through your entire mouth.

Drinkability: It is a highly enjoyable beer, but must be enjoyed slowly. Doesn’t need to be all that cold as well. It’s 10% abv is present and is to complex to drink any faster.
