Review – Harpoon Munich Dark
From Harpoon Brewery – Harpoon Munich Dark is a blend of dark malts that creates a deeper hue than some other beers brewed in this style. The grains which create a malty chocolate-like flavor also add a warm malty nose that mingles with the subtle hop aroma. This medium bodied beer is balanced quite well with a moderately bitter hop finish.
Harpoon Brewery – Harpoon Munich Dark – 12 oz. bottle poured into a beer glass. 5.5% abv. Part of a Harpoon Sampler Pack – Purchased at Dawsons Liquor – Severna Park, MD.
Appearance: Deep plum with an inch of frothy tan head.
Aroma: Malt, hearty bread and ripe fruits.
Taste: A fantastic bitterness. Perhaps a bit of unsweetened cocoa, chicory and cinnamon (like sucking on a cinnamon stick, not sweet or spicy).
Mouthfeel: Clean and a bit more fizzy than its appearance suggests.
Overall: The class of the field, this one. Lots of bitterness makes up for the lack of body.
