Review – Founders Double Trouble
Founders Brewing Co. – Double Trouble Imperial IPA -12 oz. bottle poured into my New Belgium Beer glass – 9.4% abv. Acquired by trade on ratebeer.
Appearance: Pours a cloudy amber gold, with only a tad bit of white suds gathering at the top.
Aroma: My first thoughts were “Bell’s Hopslam”, which is a good thing in my book. Sugary scents of mandarin orange and tangerine are all I can smell.
Taste: Sweet malts and bitter, piny hops at first. After that first hit of sweet and bitter, I get a mouthful of grapefruit, rock candy sugar and bitterness lining my inner cheeks. The flavors don’t linger as long as I would like it, which invites the next sip.
Mouthfeel: Rather thin for an Imperial IPA, but the viscosity is on par for an aggressive IPA.
Overall: Great aroma, great taste, a little thin on the mouthfeel, great ABV. This is a great beer, even if it is on the thin side.
