From Alesmith Brewing – A HUGE Imperial Stout that weighs in at an impressive 12% ABV! As if that’s not enough, we added pounds of coffee for a little extra kick. Our special-edition Brewer’s Reserve Speedway Stout, which is aged in Bourbon barrels, has been rated the #1 BEST BEER IN THE WORLD at ratebeer.com. It was also featured on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” in a segment on the best dark beers in America.
Alesmith Brewing – Alesmith Speedway Stout – 750ml bottle poured into a taster glass. 12% abv. Purchased at Whole Foods Arroyo, Pasadena,CA.
Appearance: Midnight brown with a dark, frothy head.
Aroma: Roast coffee and chocolate.
Taste: Chocolate, roast coffee, burnt malts and spicy hops.
Mouthfeel: Silky and sparkly.
Overall: This is what anyone trying to make an Imperial Stout should strive for. Besides the roasted coffee, there aren’t many other “gimmicks” that make this beer stand out. It’s simple yet bold and impactful.
