Oakshire Hellshire I
From Oakshire Brewing – The first beer in the Hellshire series is a Barleywine that was 100% aged in Heaven Hill Bourbon Barrels for 10 months. Notes of vanilla, coconut, oak and bourbon intertwine with the beer’s complex malt and hop character, making for a contemplative beer meant for enjoying now, or aging for months or years. It is 10% alcohol by volume and sold in 22 ounce wax dipped bottles.
Oakshire Brewing – Oakshire Hellshire I – 22 oz. bottle poured into a goblet. 10% abv.
Appearance: Pours a rust orange with a small egg shell colored head.
Aroma: Huge alcohol along with danky peach and apricot.
Taste: Big bitter aggressive hops, hot bourbon and sweet malt. Finishes hot.
Mouthfeel: Hot, sticky full body. Modestly carbonated.
Overall: I believe this beer needs to lay down for a minimum of a year to chill out. I get it now….Hellshire. There was so much going on, it hid some of the barrel character, or at least it pummeled my palate to the point I couldn’t notice much.
