New Glarus Black Top Black IPA

New Glarus Brewing – New Glarus Black Top Black IPA – 12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. 6.9% abv.
Appearance: Pours a cola brown with white swirls atop.
Aroma: Danky citrus hop. Tangerine and a lil fresh mint.
Taste: Bitter juicy hop ,slight burnt roast. Hop lingers well past the sip.
Mouthfeel: Thin bodied ,juicy with moderate bubbles.
Overall: There are so many confused Black IPAs out there. Some roasty with no hops, some with a power struggle between the hops and malt, and then there’s Black Top. Black Top is what I have in mind for this confusing style. Appearance is dark, but if you sip and smell with your eyes closed, it’s an IP frickin A. The body seemed a little thin for me, but I’d take that over a mouthful of roast or black malt.
