New Belgium Lips of Faith Cascara Quad
From New Belgium Brewing – Cascara Quad is a dark, strong and surprisingly delicate ale made with dates and coffee cherries. Channeling the Trappist tradition, it’s brewed with an ethereal malt bill, and spiced with the fruit of the coffee bean (cascara). The aroma brings dates, cherries and pipe tobacco right to the nose and builds layers with hints of spice and fruity Belgian yeast. Once on the palate, Cascara Quad starts swinging clove, fig and molasses. Each sip offers sweet warmth, deep complexity and fleeting dryness.
New Belgium Brewing – New Belgium Lips of Faith Cascara Quad – 22 oz. bottle poured into a goblet. 10% abv.
Appearance: Pours a cloudy tea brown with an offwhite cap.
Aroma: Bubble gum and banana creme.
Taste: More bubble gum. Light clove, sweet ripe fruit. The alcohol level is in line with the style.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied lively carbonation.
Overall: This is another case of New Belgium putting all of these words on their product that invoke strong emotions and things to entice the senses, and then the beer itself not meeting those exceptions. By no means is the beer bad, or not tasty, it’s just they are being too conservative or over promising and under delivering.
