Magic Hat Hex

From Magic Hat Brewing – Hex is a malty amber ale offering hints of toffee and caramel with its slightly smoky finish. Malt: Pale, Vienna, Crystal, Cherry Wood Smoked Malt, Rye Hops: Hallertau Yeast: German Ale Yeast

Magic Hat Brewing – Magic Hat Hex – 12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. 5.4% abv.

Appearance:  Pours a hazy amber orange with a thin white cap of foam.

Aroma: Bready malt and modest herbal hop aroma.

Taste: Bready malt, some salty caramel, mild euro hop spice finish.

Mouthfeel:  Highly carbonated, full bodied.

Overall:  This is perfect example of a run-of-the-mill American rendition of an Oktoberfest beer. The style doesn’t lend a ton of room for creativity, but seemed like there was room for some more boldness.  The smoked malt sounded great, but wasn’t pronounced enough for me to detect it. Not bad, drinkable, but forgettable.
