Green Flash West Coast IPA
From Green Flash Brewing Co. – This West Coast-Style India Pale Ale is extravagantly hopped, full flavored, medium bodied and copper colored. A menagerie of hops is combined throughout the brewing process to impart specific characteristics. Hops used include Simcoe for a unique fruitiness and grapefruit zest, Columbus for strong hop pungency, Centennial for pine and citrus notes, and Cascade for floral aroma.
Green Flash Brewing Co. – West Coast IPA – 12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. 7.2% abv. Bottled on July 28,2009 Reviewed July 31,2009. Purchased at Certified Market – Monrovia, CA.
Aroma: Grapefruit rind and pine are the most dominant aromas I gather after the pour. Also a little bit of spicy sweet malt.
Taste: Deep grapefruit notes, pine. Those two flavors make for quite an astringent impact. After my tongue stops twitching from the hops, I get a nice layer of sweet crystal malt.
Mouthfeel: Astringently tongue curling and thick.
Overall: I love this beer for the same reasons you may not. I like dark roasted black coffee and I like blow your face off dank west coast IPAs. This beer fits the bill of that. If you try it, and its too much, go for Hop Head Red for a more mild approach on the tongue, or even the Imperial IPA for more malt to counteract some of these IBUs.
