Goose Island Sofie
From Goose Island – Fermented with wild yeasts and aged in wine barrels with orange peel, Sofie is a tart, dry, sparkling ale. A subtle, spicy white pepper note, a hint of citrus from the orange peel and a creamy vanilla finish make Sofie an intriguing choice for Champagne drinkers and beer drinkers who are fond of Belgian Saisons.
Goose Island Brewing – Goose Island Sofie Vintage 2010 – 22 oz. bottle poured into a goblet. 6.5% abv. Purchased at Certified Market Monrovia, CA.
Appearance: Pours a pastel yellow with a thin white film.
Aroma: Orange zest, spicy yeast, pronounced barrel notes and a little bit of sugar.
Taste: Orange peel, lemon, spicy yeast, barrel, candi sugar and a spicy kiss of hops.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied with prickly carbonation.
Overall: I found this beer to be just awesome. Super balanced, bold and tasty. Very inviting.

Sofie was one of my most favorite beers that I drank in all of 2010. So flavorful and refreshing and perfect in every way. Unfortunately for me in Florida, Goose Island doesn’t distribute here. But my buddy is going back to Chicago on a business trip in March, so I could score another bottle. Fingers are crossed!
